The observation of high-energy neutrinos from the cosmos: Lessons learned for multimessenger astronomy

The IceCube neutrino telescope discovered PeV-energy neutrinos originating beyond our Galaxy with an energy flux that is comparable to of GeV-energy gamma rays and EeV-energy cosmic rays. These provide the only unobstructed view accelerators power highest radiation reaching us from universe. We will review results IceCube's first decade operations, emphasizing measurement diffuse multiflavored universe identification supermassive black hole TXS 0506+056 as a source and, therefore, speculate on lessons learned for multimessenger astronomy, among them extragalactic sources may be relatively small subset observed in high-energy these gamma-ray-obscured at times they emit neutrinos.
